Augustus Panton, CEPAR PhD candidate at the ANU Crawford School of Public Policy, has been awarded the Adam Smith Fellowship from the Mercatus Center at George Mason University for the 2019/2020 academic year.
The highly competitive Mercatus Center’s Adam Smith Fellowships are awarded annually to PhD candidates in a variety of fields, including economics, philosophy, political science and sociology, to provide students with opportunities to engage with key thinkers in political economy and macroeconomic policy. Augustus Panton has been awarded the fellowship based on his outstanding performance and contributions in academia.
Augustus Panton is a CEPAR PhD candidate in Economics at the ANU Crawford School of Public Policy, supervised by CEPAR Chief Investigator Warwick McKibbin. He is also a Research Assistant at the ANU Centre for Applied Macroeconomic Analysis and a Teaching Assistant at the ANU Research School of Economics.
Prior to joining ANU, Augustus worked as an Economist at the Central Bank of Liberia. Before then, he worked with the Liberian Ministry of Commerce & Industry as an Economist and as Head of the Trade Facilitation Division at the Liberian Ministry of Finance and Development Planning. He has provided consulting services for several international organisations, including the World Bank and the Brookings Institution.
