A new grant has been awarded to Centre researchers Michelle Vhudzijena, Kyu Park, Michael Sherris and Kaarin Anstey in the latest round of the CEPAR Multidisciplinary Collaboration Funding Scheme, for their research project on 'Socio-economic Inequalities in Life Expectancy and Functional Disability amongst Older Australians and Americans'.

Projects funded in past years examined topics such as evaluating income sources and wellbeing of retirees; investigating the impact of work design on enhancing older employees’ cognitive functioning in the future of work; understanding the length of stay and health trajectory of older Australians in permanent residential care; cross-cultural social determinants of ageism among young adults; mental health intervention in non-native speaking aged care recipients; age discrimination and trends in the Australian workforce; early-life-events and their influence on expectations of ageing in later life; the interplay between life events and shared financial decision-making among older adults and their household decision partners; and projections of dementia in populations with special needs.

The annual grants of up to $10,000 per project aim to provide seed funding for research and activities which enhance multidisciplinary collaboration across and within CEPAR’s four research streams.

Applications are assessed on their research quality, multidisciplinarity, research budget, potential for benefit and the quality of the research team and their potential to form a lasting collaboration. A key requirement is that the projects are led by a CEPAR early- to mid-career researcher.
