CEPAR Associate Investigator Dr Katja Hanewald has been awarded the Dean’s Emerging Leadership Award at the 2022 UNSW Business School Staff Excellence Awards Ceremony, in recognition of her outstanding contributions.

The award celebrates UNSW Business School's outstanding emerging leaders and recognises those who have demonstrated positive benefits for stakeholders, demonstrated innovation and, in the spirit of the Business School, have responded to the question "Why Not?".

Dr Katja Hanewald is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Risk and Actuarial Studies, the Coordinator of the Actuarial Co-op Program at UNSW Sydney, and a UNSW Business School Dean’s Research Fellow. She is also the Director of Research of the Ageing Asia Research Hub, which is hosted by CEPAR, and the Secretary of the Asia-Pacific Risk and Insurance Association (APRIA).

Her research models ageing trends and develops insurance responses to population ageing. Since joining UNSW in 2016, she has established and led a multidisciplinary research group in CEPAR that pioneers population ageing research for China. She has supervised postdocs and PhD students and established research collaborations with top Chinese universities. Her research has been published in actuarial, economics, social science, and medical journals and informed industry and government.
