Following the funding of three pilot projects under the CEPAR Multidisciplinary Collaboration Funding Scheme in 2020, three new grants have been awarded to Centre researchers under the Scheme this year.
The 2021 projects encompass investigations into age discrimination and trends in the Australian workforce; early-life-events and their influence on expectations of ageing in later life; and the relationship between blood pressure, epilepsy, and dementia while accounting for the socioeconomic position and understanding the specific relationship between retinal vascular changes and cerebrovascular damage.
In 2020, following a strong application and review process, seed funding grants were awarded to CEPAR researchers for three pilot projects under the Scheme. The 2020 cohort conducted research into the interplay between life events and shared financial decision-making among older adults and their household decision partners; a progressive pension benefit design; and projections of dementia in populations with special needs.
All multidisciplinary projects have great potential to create tangible impact for the ageing population.
The annual grants of up to $10,000 per project aim to provide seed funding for research and activities which enhance multidisciplinary projects closely aligned with the CEPAR research program.
A key requirement is that the projects are led by a CEPAR early- to mid-career researcher, with co-lead investigators from different research disciplines.
The funded projects so far incorporate CEPAR researchers in the fields of demography, economics, epidemiology, geriatric medicine, public health, psychology, and sociology,
The grant applications were reviewed by the Centre Director and a review panel with applications assessed on their research quality, multidisciplinarity, research budget, potential for benefit and the quality of the research team and their potential to form a lasting collaboration.
