Scientia Professor John Piggott AO, CEPAR Director, UNSW Sydney
I have been writing Director’s messages for the CEPAR newsletter for more than a decade now, alerting readers around the world to international and domestic conferences and workshops, ground-breaking research findings that address one of the major economic and social challenges of the twenty first century, evidence of impact on policy and practice, and success in nurturing a new generation of researchers committed to the issue of population ageing.
Funded primarily by an initial seven-year grant from the Australian Research Council (ARC), with generous support from the collaborating universities and partner organisations, CEPAR was established in 2011 under the ARC Centre of Excellence scheme to undertake high-impact, independent, multidisciplinary research and build research capacity in the field of population ageing, with renewed ARC Centre of Excellence funding awarded for an additional seven-year term in 2017.
It’s been a terrific 14 years, undertaking independent and multidisciplinary population ageing research and developing high quality partnerships with organisations drawn from academe, government and industry, to provide Australia, the greater Pacific region, and the world with crucial new knowledge and evidence to enable individuals, businesses, and governments to respond better to demographic change.
This week we are hosting a Research Showcase at CEPAR’s administering university, the University of New South Wales, highlighting our research in the causes, consequences and responses to population ageing with expertise drawn from Actuarial Science, Demography, Economics, Epidemiology, Psychology, Industrial Relations, Organisational Behaviour and Sociology. We invite you to join us to celebrate the Centre’s many achievements by registering here.
The CEPAR Research Showcase program sessions are focused on:
- research highlights and outcomes from the CEPAR research program;
- stakeholder engagement, research translation and resources developed; and
- the next generation of researchers in population ageing.
I hope to see you there.
