CEPAR Honorary Professor Robert Holzmann appointed as new governor of the Austrian Central Bank

Robert Holzmann has been appointed as the new governor of the Austrian Central Bank (Oesterreichische Nationalbank - OeNB) to take office on September 1, 2019, in Vienna.  His six-year term is renewable, and he will represent Austria at the governing council of the European Central Bank in Frankfurt where monetary policy decisions are made.

Robert Holzmann holds honorary chairs at CEPAR and at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. He is a Research Fellow of IZA and CESifo, and a Fellow of the Austrian Academy of Science.

Robert Holzmann also serves as a consultant on pensions, financial literacy and education, labour market and migration issues. From 1997 to 2011 he held various positions at the World Bank including Sector Director for Social Protection and Labor. Before joining the World Bank he was a professor in Germany and Austria and senior economist at the IMF and OECD.

He has published over 35 books and over 150 articles on social, fiscal and financial policy issues.

Robert Holzmann is a frequent visitor to CEPAR. Most recently, he visited in November 2017 to work closely with Centre Director Scientia Professor John Piggott on the finalization of a volume on the taxation of pensions, published by MIT Press in 2018.
