Jenny Gordon
Chair, Advisory Committee
Jenny is a policy economist with deep experience in economic and social policy, drawing on micro and macroeconomic frameworks, models, and empirical analysis. She has worked at a high level in business and government on diverse policy issues, including aged care and child care.
Jenny is an Honorary Professor for the Centre for Social Research (POLIS) at the Australian National University, a Nonresident Fellow at the Lowy Institute, and serves on the Advisory Council at the Asian Development Bank Institute. She is a Non-Executive Director at Natural Capital and Climate (NCCEconomics), part of the Alluvium Group.
Jenny was the Chief Economist at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) from 2019 to 2021, bringing together trade and investment economics with development economics. From 2018-2019 Jenny was Chief Economist at Nous Group, assisting them in developing their economics practice. From 2008-2017, Jenny was the Principal Adviser (Research) and First Assistant Secretary at the Productivity Commission. She led the 2010 inquiry into reform of the not-for-profit sector and the 2012 inquiry into the approaches to regulatory reform, and had major roles in inquiries into reforming aged care, childcare systems, migration, and the Five-year Productivity Review. Prior to the Commission, Jenny was a partner at the Centre for International Economics.
Jenny started her professional career at the Reserve Bank of Australia. She has a PhD in Economics and a Master of Arts from Harvard University, and a Master and Bachelor of Economics (Honours) from Macquarie University.
