Call for Abstracts: 22nd National Conference of Emerging Researchers in Ageing

Sep05
ERA

The 22nd National Conference of Emerging Researchers in Ageing (ERA 2024) will take place online on 4 December. ERA 2024 is chaired by Associate Professor Natasha (Tarsh) Brusco from Monash University and sponsored by CEPAR.

ERA 2024 offers a unique opportunity for emerging researchers in ageing to share their research; this is the only national conference in Australia focusing on the work of higher degree research students undertaking research in ageing across a range of disciplines.

Call for Abstracts

The ERA 2024 Conference Organising Committee warmly invites Honours, Masters, PhD, Professional doctoral students, and early career researchers engaged in ageing-related research to present their research and engage in discussions with other emerging researchers and senior researchers.

The conference features two main ways to engage in this discussion: via traditional Oral Presentations where participants provide a detailed overview of their research and have the opportunity to respond to questions from the virtual audience, or by posing questions to senior researchers as part of the Ask the ERA Brains Trust session (more detail on both opportunities provided below).

The call for abstracts will close on Wednesday 11 September 2024. To share the call for abstracts with your networks, download the flyer here.

Oral presentations

Emerging researchers wishing to present their research to their peers and to senior researchers are invited to submit an abstract for an oral presentation. Once accepted, topics will be grouped into themes to promote wider discussion. It is expected that there will be multiple parallel themes run in blocks across the day, enabling audience members to choose the topics that most interest them.

More detail on the process and the abstract template is provided here. All abstracts must be submitted by Wednesday 11 September 2024.

Ask the ERA Brains Trust

In addition to an exciting array of oral presentations, ERA 2024 will feature an Ask the ERA Brains Trust session, where emerging researchers pose questions to an expert panel. Researchers interested in the Brains Trust session are asked to complete an expression of interest form, outlining their research area and posing 2-3 questions. This enables the ERA Conference Organising Committee to identify and invite senior researchers with relevant expertise (i.e., the ERA Brains Trust) to provide brief responses.

Emerging researchers wanting to participate in both the oral presentations and the Brains Trust session may submit a Brains Trust EoI on the same topic as their oral presentation, or they may pose questions to the Brains Trust on a different topic. For example, emerging researchers may seek to outline their research findings as part of an oral presentation, and then pose questions regarding the translation of that work or about a new research area as part of the Brains Trust session.

More detail on the process and the expression of interest template is provided here. All expressions of interest must be submitted by Wednesday 11 September 2024.
