CEPAR Symposium on Diversity in Ageing: Population and Individual Ageing Perspectives

It is well understood that Australia’s population is ageing – with the number of people at older ages growing rapidly (numerical ageing) and accounting for an increasing share of the total population (structural ageing). With a few exceptions, understanding the diversity of future population change within the older population has been largely overlooked. However, an evidence base has gradually developed on the facilitators and barriers to successful ageing among diverse population groups at an individual level.
Understanding the diversity of future population change within the older population is important as the Aged Care Act 1997 as well as a series of policy documents cement the Australian Commonwealth Government’s commitment to meeting the needs of older Australians from diverse backgrounds. Notable examples include the Department of Health’s Aged Care Diversity Framework, the Charter of Aged Care Rights, and the Aged Care Quality Standards all of which enshrine, mandate, and regulate respectively the need for appropriate and safe aged care.
This Symposium, hosted by the ARC Centre of Excellence in Population Ageing Research (CEPAR), presents new research on population and individual ageing to understand how acknowledging diversity in ageing can improve policy outcomes in Australia.

* Note: The safety and wellbeing of participants is paramount to the Symposium committee. Masks: We encourage all attendees to wear a mask in all indoor settings . We encourage you to wear higher-quality masks: surgical masks offer superior protection to cloth masks, and N95 masks offer superior protection to surgical masks if correctly fitted.

Health and safety protocol:
